Cabinet Highlights PM’s Key Activities This Week

Cairo: The Cabinet Media Center released a series of infographics on Friday, detailing the extensive activities of Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly over this week. The report highlights a focus on industrial localization, international partnerships, and legislative updates concerning social and digital protection.

According to State Information Service Egypt, as part of the government's commitment to expand Egypt's industrial base, Madbouly met with the chairman of China's Henan Zhongfu Industrial Co Ltd to discuss plans for a first-of-its-kind aluminum production plant in the East Port Said Industrial Zone. The $2 billion project, covering an area of one million square meters, is expected to create 3,000 direct jobs and boost national exports.

During a separate high-level meeting, the premier held talks with the President of the Republic of Tatarstan of the Russian Federation. Discussions focused on fast-tracking the implementation of the Russian Industrial Zone (RIZ) within the Suez Canal Economic Zone. The meeting also addressed collaborative efforts with Tatarstan companies in truck manufacturing, petrochemical refining, and tire production, especially within the framework of the BRICS grouping.

During a meeting with the Director General of Rosatom this week, Madbouly reviewed progress on the Dabaa Nuclear Power Plant. He emphasized Egypt's commitment to the project's timeline and expressed interest in expanding cooperation with Russia to include small modular reactors (SMRs) and technical training for Egyptian cadres.

Addressing social challenges, Madbouly chaired a meeting to counter the risks associated with online platforms and electronic games by drafting new laws to protect children in the virtual environment. On that score, the government is expected to launch a first-of-a-kind 'Child SIM' card with secure internet packages and parental controls. The card will be launched before June 30.

During a meeting to follow up developments on the National Program for Automotive Industry Development, Madbouly emphasized the government's commitment to entrench local electric vehicle manufacturing. He directed the minister of industry to give a high priority to this file. Madbouly said the government is ready to roll out exceptional incentives to international automakers with industry localization plans in Egypt.

As regards urban development, the premier held a meeting to follow up progress on the "Ras El Hekma" and "Shams El Hekma" projects on the North West Coast, including land handovers to developers, the disbursement of compensation to local residents, and the construction of alternative housing.

Madbouly also chaired a meeting of the Main Committee for Legalizing the Status of Churches, during which a decision was made to legalize the status of 191 churches and service buildings, bringing the total number of regularized structures to 3,804 since the committee's inception. Following presidential directives to fast-track the referral of draft laws on family affairs to the Parliament, the premier also reviewed progress on draft personal status laws for Muslims and Christians, as well as the Family Support Fund bill. The draft law for Christian citizens has been finalized and will be discussed with church representatives before submission to the Parliament.

Madbouly reaffirmed the government's commitment to supporting the industrial sector as a top national priority, while providing adequate social and legislative protections for the Egyptian family.
