Rafah: Egypt sent its 90th humanitarian aid convoy to war-ravaged Gaza on Tuesday, December 9, 2025, with trucks entering through a side gate of the Rafah crossing before being routed to the Karm Abu Salem and Al-Auja crossings for Israeli inspection, an official at Rafah said.
According to State Information Service Egypt, the 'Zad Al-Ezza. From Egypt to Gaza' convoy, launched by the Egyptian Red Crescent in late July, carries thousands of tons of food supplies, baby formula, medical items, medicines, personal-care products, and fuel. This initiative underscores Egypt's continuing efforts to provide humanitarian assistance to the affected regions of Gaza.
The Egyptian Red Crescent has been at the forefront of coordinating aid into Gaza since the onset of the Israeli offensive in October 2023. Despite numerous challenges, including operational restrictions, they have managed to keep the Rafah crossing operational and have deployed 35,000 volunteers to aid in these efforts.
Israel's closure of Gaza's crossings on March 2, following the end of the first phase of a truce, significantly hampered the entry of aid, fuel, and heavy machinery. However, deliveries resumed in May under an Israeli security mechanism, which faced criticism from UNRWA. These developments highlight the complex dynamics surrounding humanitarian aid in the region.
In a notable effort to facilitate aid, Israel announced a 10-hour humanitarian pause on July 27, 2025. Additionally, a first-phase ceasefire deal between Hamas and Israel was brokered on October 9, 2025, in Sharm El-Sheikh with mediation from Egypt, the US, Qatar, and Turkey. These diplomatic efforts aim to ease tensions and improve the flow of necessary aid to the people of Gaza.
