Transport Minister Kamel El Wazir Pushes for Expenditure Rationalization in Transport Sector


Cairo: Minister of Transport Kamel el Wazir held an expanded meeting on Saturday, 4/4/2026, with heads of authorities and companies affiliated with the Ministry of Transport, as part of efforts to follow up on the implementation of cabinet directives to rationalize public expenditure.



According to State Information Service Egypt, the minister stated that the meeting aimed to outline the working mechanism for the coming period under the slogan of ‘minimizing expenditures to the maximum and maximizing revenues to the maximum.’ He emphasized the immediate implementation of cabinet decisions on energy conservation, optimal resource utilization, and improving asset efficiency to support the national economy, while maintaining the high level of services provided by all transport sectors nationwide.



During the meeting, Wazir directed all affiliated entities to implement a comprehensive plan to rationalize spending across their operations without compromising service quality. He asserted the need to achieve the highest levels of operational efficiency, improve services for citizens, adhere to top safety and quality standards, and expand revenue-generating activities within affiliated bodies.



On maritime transport, the minister urged officials to continue implementing the comprehensive plan to develop the maritime sector, a key pillar of Egypt Vision 2030. This involves upgrading and constructing seaports, restoring the strength of Egypt’s commercial fleet, and enhancing partnerships with global shipping lines and operators.



The minister stressed that the coming phase requires strong teamwork and maximum effort to sustain the qualitative leap in the performance of all transport sectors. He underlined the importance of leadership presence on-site and consistent engagement with employees to build a productive work environment, boost output, and support the region’s comprehensive development plans and the national economy.
