Cairo: Minister of Tourism and Antiquities Sherif Fathy, along with South Sinai Governor Ismail Kamal, have assessed the advancements of the "Great Transfiguration" project in St. Catherine. Officials report that the implementation of this ambitious tourism initiative is approximately 97.5% complete.
According to State Information Service Egypt, the project involves substantial investments totaling around EGP 25 billion. It aims to elevate St. Catherine as a premier global destination for spiritual, mountain, and heritage tourism while safeguarding its distinct environmental, historical, and religious attributes.
The meeting held in Sharm El-Sheikh focused on strategies to develop St. Catherine into a green destination, emphasizing the need for infrastructure and public service upgrades. The project seeks to balance developmental objectives with the imperative of environmental conservation.
Officials underscored the city's religious, historic, and natural attractions, and pointed out its potential for medical tourism alongside its unique Bedouin cultural heritage. Participants in the meeting highlighted the necessity of continued cooperation among all involved agencies to ensure the project's successful completion, aligning with quality standards and enhancing St. Catherine's global tourism standing.
