Cairo: Hisham El-Leithy, Secretary General of the Supreme Council of Antiquities, conducted an inspection tour of the Saqqara, Abusir, and Mit Rahina archaeological sites. The visit covered main entrances, new museum storehouses, and the progress of foreign archaeological missions, as well as the Open-Air Museum at Mit Rahina.
According to State Information Service Egypt, El-Leithy stated that the tour aligns with the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities' strategy to upgrade archaeological sites to enhance their historical value and improve the visitor experience. In Saqqara, he emphasized the need for an integrated visitor center at the new entrance and the completion of lighting and electronic surveillance systems. He also directed the transfer of artifacts from old stores to new, state-of-the-art facilities.
The tour included reviewing restoration work by the Czech mission at the tombs of Ptahhotep and Akhethotep, as well as excavations by Cairo University and the German mission from the University of Tbingen. At Mit Rahina, El-Leithy ordered a comprehensive development project for the Open-Air Museum, home to the colossal statue of Ramses II, to modernize display methods and services.
