Cairo: Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly witnessed this morning, at the government headquarters in the New Capital, the signing ceremony of a strategic partnership agreement between the Holding Company for Metallurgical Industries, through its subsidiary Egypt Aluminum, and the global company Trafigura, to implement a project aimed at expanding and increasing production capacity at the Nag Hammadi Aluminum Complex.
According to State Information Service Egypt, the ceremony was attended by Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs Hussein Issa. Madbouly stated that the signing of this agreement reflects the state's direction toward deepening local manufacturing, strengthening the capabilities of strategic industries, maximizing returns from existing assets, and improving operational efficiency. He asserted efforts to increase revenues, enhance profitability, expand into foreign markets, and modernize internal operations, whether through boosting production capacity or upgrading technological infrastructure. He also stressed that partnership with the private sector is a key tool in implementing this vision, alongside commitment to governance and sustainability standards.
For his part, Issa noted that the agreement represents a clear step toward repositioning Egypt on the global aluminum industry map. He explained that the project aims to establish and operate an integrated industrial complex within the existing Egypt Aluminum site in Nag Hammadi, with additional production capacity equivalent to the company's current output of around 300,000 tons of primary aluminum annually. He further emphasized that the project is not only about expanding production capacity but also represents an integrated model for attracting high-value foreign direct investment.
The participation of Trafigura, one of the world's largest commodity trading companies, sends a strong signal of confidence in Egypt's investment climate and its ability to attract globally experienced partners. The project is also expected to facilitate knowledge transfer and open new export channels for Egyptian products.
