Cairo: President Abdel Fattah El Sisi received a phone call from French President Emmanuel Macron to discuss enhancing bilateral relations and addressing regional developments, particularly in the Gaza Strip.
According to State Information Service Egypt, the discussion highlighted the significant progress in Egypt-France relations since their strategic partnership was established during Macron's visit to Cairo in April 2015.
The spokesperson, Mohamed El-Shenawy, outlined that the leaders explored ways to further political, economic, and investment cooperation. They discussed increasing trade volumes, which have seen recent growth, and enhancing collaboration in sectors such as industry, tourism, and transportation. The call also focused on the situation in the Gaza Strip, with President Sisi appreciating France's support for Egypt's efforts in achieving a ceasefire and stressing the importance of humanitarian aid and reconstruction in Gaza.
President Macron acknowledged Egypt's crucial role in regional stability, particularly in the Gaza ceasefire. The leaders also addressed issues in the West Bank, with President Sisi condemning Israeli violations and advocating for international pressure to support Palestinians and the Palestinian Authority. They concurred on the necessity of launching a comprehensive political process towards establishing an independent Palestinian state within the 1967 borders.
On the topic of Sudan, President Sisi affirmed Egypt's support for Sudan's unity and sovereignty, rejecting any threats to its security. He expressed backing for efforts to conclude the conflict and restore peace in Sudan.
