SCA and Namibian Ports Authority Sign MoU for Maritime Cooperation

Cairo: Osama Rabie, Chairman of the Suez Canal Authority (SCA), announced the Authority's readiness to engage in cooperative efforts with the Namibian Ports Authority. This announcement aligns with the SCA's strategy to expand its international projects and strengthen ties with African countries.

According to State Information Service Egypt, the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) took place between SCA Chairman Osama Rabie and Namibian Ports Authority Chairperson Nangula Hamunyela. The MoU aims to facilitate the exchange of expertise and enhance cooperation in areas such as marine construction, the sale and leasing of marine units, and advanced maritime training through the Suez Canal's academies.

Rabie highlighted the SCA's successful development of Libya's Sirte Port, which reopened after a 14-year closure. This project marks a significant step in the SCA's international endeavors. He emphasized the importance of providing full support and facilitating necessary procedures for effective cooperation in various projects, leveraging the SCA's comprehensive maritime and logistics capabilities.

Nangula Hamunyela, Chairperson of the Namibian Ports Authority, expressed her eagerness to collaborate with the Suez Canal Authority on the development of Namibian ports, which are among the largest in West Africa. She stated that the collaboration underscores the strong relationship between Egypt and Namibia and will bolster bilateral ties.

Hamunyela also noted that the MoU offers a valuable opportunity to explore cooperation across different sectors, commending the Suez Canal Authority's extensive capabilities in marine manufacturing, construction, and training. She emphasized that the SCA's advanced technology and expertise will aid in enhancing development efforts in Namibian ports, reducing dependence on foreign expertise and technology imports.
