Cairo: President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi met with Prime Minister Dr. Moustafa Madbouly and Deputy Prime Minister for Human Development and Minister of Health and Population Dr. Khaled Abdel-Ghaffar.
According to State Information Service Egypt, the meeting focused on reviewing the work of the human development ministerial group, which is responsible for implementing the national human development project. Key initiatives include increasing nurseries for children under six and establishing 300 integrated human development centers across various governorates to enhance cultural, educational, and athletic capabilities and improve health and job readiness.
Dr. Abdel-Ghaffar presented the National Population and Development Strategy, part of the Bedaya presidential initiative, aimed at improving demographics and addressing childhood health issues like dwarfism, obesity, and anemia. The meeting also highlighted a decrease in the average annual population growth rate to approximately 1.34% in 2025 from 1.4% in 2024.
President El-Sisi was updated on health sector projects, including the development of 20 hospitals in 11 governorates, costing 11.7 billion Egyptian pounds, adding 2,649 beds, including intensive care, incubators, and inpatient beds, and providing medical equipment such as dialysis machines and operating rooms. Additionally, 11 hospitals in 10 governorates have been completed, with significant enhancements in medical infrastructure.
The President was briefed on the second phase of the comprehensive health insurance system, which includes developing 11 hospitals and establishing 19 new ones in various governorates, increasing the total to 65 hospitals with 10,517 beds. This phase also includes establishing 534 primary care units, with an estimated cost of 115 billion Egyptian pounds.
President El-Sisi emphasized the need for timely completion of the second phase, maintaining high-quality standards, and directed the government to explore integrating AI into educational curricula. The Minister of Health outlined steps for developing a digital health system aligned with Egypt's Vision 2030, which includes electronic health records, AI technologies, and international partnerships.
Public health initiatives, targeting citizens of all age groups, have provided over 234 million health services through 3,527 health units. The initiative to eliminate patient waiting lists has treated 2,690,000 citizens since July 2018, and 2.1 million citizens were treated at state expense in 2025.
President El-Sisi emphasized localizing the pharmaceutical and medical device industries, highlighting the importance of attracting investments to meet domestic market needs and boost exports. He also called for improving healthcare workers' conditions, enhancing training programs, and leveraging AI applications in healthcare.
