Cairo: Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouli announced that Egypt is on the verge of entering the nuclear age with the near completion of the El Dabaa Nuclear Power Plant project, highlighting the expected annual savings of approximately $2.5 to $3 billion.
According to State Information Service Egypt, Madbouli made these remarks during a press conference held at the Cabinet headquarters in the New Administrative Capital (NAC) following a Cabinet meeting. He emphasized that the realization of this dream was achieved under the leadership of President Abdel Fattah El Sisi.
Madbouli also noted the significant event witnessed yesterday, where President Sisi and Russian President Vladimir Putin were present during the installation of the reactor pressure vessel for the first nuclear unit of the Dabaa Nuclear Power Plant. This development signifies the countdown to the project's completion, with operations expected to begin by 2029.
The Prime Minister further explained the project's importance to Egypt's energy strategy, as it will provide substantial savings on gas and petroleum products that would otherwise need to be consumed from domestic production. Estimates suggest that the Dabaa Nuclear Power Plant will save the country between $2.5 and $3 billion annually once operational.
The plant, with a lifespan exceeding 60 years, is set to provide safe energy, marking a significant advancement for Egypt. Madbouli expressed his gratitude to President Sisi for making this Egyptian dream a reality and for his ongoing commitment to overseeing the project's progress.
