Alexandria: Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly began his tour in Alexandria with a meeting focused on reviewing the efforts and measures undertaken to integrate the governorate into the comprehensive health insurance system.
According to State Information Service Egypt, a proposal was presented during the meeting for the establishment of a healthcare network in collaboration between the governorate, an investment alliance, and the Federation of Egyptian Chambers of Commerce. The session was attended by several notable figures, including Engineer Sherif El-Sherbiny, Minister of Housing, Major General Ahmed Khaled Hassan Said, Governor of Alexandria, and Mr. Ahmed El-Wakeel, President of the General Federation of Egyptian Chambers of Commerce.
Dr. Mostafa Madbouly was briefed by Engineer Ahmed Tarek on the project aimed at facilitating Alexandria's integration into the comprehensive health insurance system. The project plans to establish 70 smart digital clinics across the city, backed by investments exceeding one billion Egyptian pounds, to enhance primary healthcare and promote medical tourism from Alexandria to Africa and the region.
Engineer Ahmed Tarek explained that the network would consist of 70 integrated primary care units chosen based on population density. Of these, 35 clinics will be fully funded through an investment alliance involving the Governorate of Alexandria and other local investors. The remaining 35 clinics will be owned by groups of doctors, allowing over 100 Egyptian doctors to become partners in the national health transformation.
The project aims to expand healthcare access by providing smart services and ensuring medical quality through accredited facilities and trained medical teams. It also plans to incorporate artificial intelligence in various aspects of healthcare delivery, with support from the Ministry of Health and Population and the Ministry of Communications.
Mr. Ahmed El-Wakeel emphasized the role of the Alexandria Chamber of Commerce as a key partner in the healthcare network, facilitating collaboration between investors and government sectors to support the health sector. The chamber provides a framework for collaboration and expertise exchange to ensure successful and sustainable investment decisions.
The President of the Federation of Chambers of Commerce noted the project's potential to be implemented in other governorates. Dr. Engineer Emad Abdel Wahab added that the success of this project would contribute to swiftly including citizens from all governorates in the comprehensive health insurance system.
The project is not just an infrastructure initiative but part of an integrated national vision to reshape healthcare in Egypt, enhancing medical infrastructure, and enabling doctors to lead modern medicine. It also aims to integrate the informal health sector, broaden the tax base, and establish Egypt as a regional hub for medical tourism.
Prime Minister Madbouly expressed his support for the project and called for a realistic and clear executive plan to be prepared for discussion, indicating his approval and readiness to provide all possible support for its success. The Governor of Alexandria confirmed ongoing efforts to prepare the necessary technical infrastructure and affirmed the governorate's commitment to meeting the set criteria and controls within the specified timeframe.
