Cairo: Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly and his delegation visited the 'New Marina Coastal Road Tunnel' project on Wednesday, July 15, 2026, as part of a tour of development and urban initiatives in Marina Tourist Resort and New Alamein City.
According to State Information Service Egypt, the project is being managed by the Touristic Villages Authority under the Ministry of Housing, Utilities, and Urban Communities. Minister Randa el-Menshawy highlighted that the project aims to link Marina's northern lakes with the southern lakes of New Marina via a water tunnel. This development is expected to enhance water quality, prevent stagnation, and bolster tourism and recreational activities, thereby increasing the investment appeal and aesthetic value of Marina Tourist Resort.
The minister emphasized the necessity of rigorous on-site monitoring and frequent inspections to ensure projects adhere to timelines and meet high-quality standards. This strategy is intended to support the sustainable urban and tourism growth of both Marina and New Alamein City.
During the inspection, Prime Minister Madbouly received a detailed briefing from Ahmed Moustafa, Head of the Touristic Villages Authority. Moustafa explained that the water tunnel spans 16 meters in width and approximately 650 meters in length, designed to improve water circulation and hydraulic connectivity, benefiting the aquatic environment and increasing operational efficiency in the area.
An AI-generated presentation was shown to the delegation, depicting the tunnel in use with boats navigating through it. From an observation point, the prime minister examined the tunnel's lining works.
Moustafa elaborated on the construction process, noting that the project includes the installation of 655 reinforced concrete piles, each measuring 1.5 meters in diameter and 42 to 48 meters in length, to ensure the tunnel's structural integrity and durability under various loads. The project commenced in April 2025, with completion anticipated by the end of this year.
