Cairo: Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation Hani Sewilam held talks with Jessika Roswall, European Commissioner for Environment, Water Resilience and a Competitive Circular Economy, to discuss expanding cooperation in the water sector. This meeting took place on the sidelines of the High-level Political Forum on Sustainable Development at United Nations headquarters.
According to State Information Service Egypt, the discussions focused on advancing the Egypt-EU Strategic Partnership and coordinating for the 2026 United Nations Water Conference. Sewilam highlighted that Egypt has prepared a series of priority water investment projects designed to align with European funding mechanisms, aiming to attract investment and boost private sector involvement.
Sewilam emphasized the significance of developing practical initiatives that enhance international cooperation and stimulate investment in the water sector. He also shared updates on preparations for the 9th Cairo Water Week, scheduled for October, and extended an invitation to the European Union to participate in the event, which will feature the annual Egypt-EU High-Level Water Dialogue.
The meeting also covered preparations for the 2026 UN Water Conference, underscoring the shared commitment to strengthening collaboration in addressing global water challenges.
