Cairo: Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouli has issued directives to expedite the completion of upgrade works at the Sheikh Zayed Water Treatment Plant to meet the rising demand and improve service quality. Madbouli made these remarks during a field tour of housing and utilities projects, following a ceremony marking the 123rd anniversary of ambulance services in Egypt.
According to State Information Service Egypt, the tour was aimed at assessing the progress of housing and utility projects in the cities of 6th of October, Sheikh Zayed, and New October. The Prime Minister was accompanied by Minister of Housing, Utilities and Urban Communities Sherif el Sherbiny, Governor of Giza Adel el Naggar, and officials from the Housing Ministry and the New Urban Communities Authority.
During the tour, Madbouli inspected the Sheikh Zayed Water Treatment Plant to oversee the ongoing upgrade activities. He emphasized the government's commitment to enhancing public services, especially in the utilities sector, to address growing needs and support urban expansion through extensive development projects in new cities.
The housing minister provided an overview of the water treatment plant, which was established in 2001 on a 72-feddan site to supply Sheikh Zayed City with potable water. Sherbiny noted that the plant serves areas including Sheikh Zayed City, 6th of October City, and the Smart Village. Initially, the plant had a capacity of 450,000 cubic meters per day, which was later expanded by 125,000 cubic meters per day, bringing the total capacity to 575,000 cubic meters per day.
