Phone Call Discusses Ceasefire and Humanitarian Aid in Gaza

Cairo: In the framework of Egyptian efforts aimed at de-escalation in the Middle East, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Emigration, Dr. Badr Abdelatty, engaged in a phone call with Steve Witkoff, the U.S. President's Special Envoy for the Middle East.

According to State Information Service Egypt, Minister Abdelatty stressed the urgent necessity of resuming the ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and emphasized the importance of releasing hostages and detainees. He highlighted these steps as essential to sustaining the ceasefire and advancing President Donald Trump's vision of comprehensive peace in the region. Additionally, Abdelatty underscored the critical need for unimpeded humanitarian aid delivery due to the deteriorating conditions in the Strip.

Minister Abdelatty expressed Egypt's readiness to host an International Conference for Early Recovery and Reconstruction in Gaza, contingent on achieving a ceasefire. He indicated that this initiative would be in collaboration with the Palestinian government and the United Nations, aligning with Egypt's ongoing diplomatic efforts.

Further, Abdelatty emphasized the importance of presenting a viable political solution for the Palestinian cause to meet the aspirations of establishing an independent state. This, he noted, would help prevent repeated cycles of escalation and contribute to regional security and stability.

Finally, Minister Abdelatty highlighted the necessity for Israel and Iran to adhere to the ceasefire, facilitating de-escalation and enabling diplomatic avenues. He reiterated Egypt's support for the resumption of negotiations regarding the Iranian nuclear program and efforts aimed at achieving broader regional security and stability.
