Cairo: The Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources has firmly denied recent social media reports suggesting that it had entered into investment agreements for 108 gold and precious metals mines in northern Sudan. These reports, which were attributed to Minister Karim Badawi, have been circulating on unofficial social media pages purportedly operated from outside the country.
According to State Information Service Egypt, the ministry released a statement on Friday, June 19, 2026, clarifying that the claims are entirely false and without foundation. The statement emphasized that Minister Badawi has not made any statements to Egyptian Radio or any other media outlet regarding such agreements. Moreover, the ministry confirmed that no official announcements or statements have been issued by the ministry or any of its affiliated entities concerning these alleged deals.
The ministry reiterated that all announcements related to petroleum and mining activities are communicated through its official channels and those of its subsidiary authorities and companies. This protocol is in place to ensure the accuracy and transparency of information. The ministry also highlighted its commitment to developing Egypt's mining industry and increasing its contribution to the country's GDP. Reforms are currently underway to create a more attractive and competitive environment for investment in the sector.
Furthermore, the ministry declared its intent to pursue legal action against individuals or entities responsible for disseminating false information attributed to it or its officials, underscoring its dedication to maintaining the integrity of its communications.
