NCHR: Challenge Lies in Turning Dialogue Outcome into Legislation, Policies Felt by Citizens

Cairo: Head of the National Council for Human Rights (NCHR) Dr. Ahmed Ihab Gamal El-Din, affirmed that the challenge no longer lies in managing societal dialogues or issuing recommendations, but rather in transforming the ideas and visions presented through these dialogues into legislation and public policies that translate into tangible realities in citizens' lives.

According to State Information Service Egypt, Gamal El-Din emphasized the importance of building sustainable institutional mechanisms for consultation between the Council and the legislative authority. This came during a consultative meeting organized by the Council under the title "Strengthening the Partnership between the National Council for Human Rights and the Legislative Authority (Parliament and its Two Houses): From Dialogue to Legislation." The meeting was attended by a number of members of the House of Representatives and the Senate, in addition to members of the Council.

Gamal El-Din confirmed that the societal dialogues organized by the Council during the past year addressed a number of national issues and human rights issues, including combating discrimination, freedom of opinion and expression, the right to information, education, and community participation, and resulted in a set of ideas and recommendations worthy of implementation in policymaking and legislation circles.

The head of the National Council for Human Rights pointed to the need to transform dialogues into more effective legislation, and policies into tangible results that citizens can experience in their daily lives.
