National Programme for Decent Work Discussed in New Administrative Capital

Cairo: Minister of Labour, Mr. Mohamed Gibran, met in his office with a team from the International Labour Organization (ILO) office in Cairo. The discussion focused on the Decent Work Country Programme (DWCP) and the development of an executive document for its implementation over the next four years.According to State Information Service Egypt, the ILO team, comprising experts in various fields such as international labour standards, employment, wages, gender, and skills, collaborated with Minister Gibran to promote decent work across workplaces and production sites. This initiative aligns with government priorities, Egypt's Vision 2030, and the strategic framework for partnership between Egypt and the United Nations for sustainable development from 2023 to 2027.Minister Gibran highlighted the recent advancements in Egypt's labour sector, notably the ratification of the new Labour Law by President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, following its approval by the House of Representatives. The new law is designed to en hance job security for millions of workers, stimulate investment, and comply with international labour standards.Additionally, Minister Gibran explained the function of the Supreme Council for Social Consultation, which brings together the government, employers, and workers to foster a balanced working environment. He expressed eagerness to cooperate with the ILO and leverage its expertise in areas of shared interest.Minister Gibran also reiterated President El-Sisi's directive on Labour Day to expedite the Domestic Workers Law project and initiate a community dialogue surrounding it, underscoring Egypt's dedication to supporting and protecting workers, particularly the most vulnerable groups.
