Suez: Minister of Transport Kamel El-Wazir and Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy Dr. Mahmoud Esmat recently conducted an inspection tour of the Jabal Sahaba area in the Sinai Peninsula and Jabal Ataqa area in Suez.
According to State Information Service Egypt, this initiative follows President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi's directives to maximize returns from natural resources and explore the feasibility of utilizing these areas for renewable energy projects. The focus is on generating electricity from wind power as part of the state's sustainable development and energy transition plan. This aligns with the national energy strategy and the Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energy's aim to diversify energy sources, increase reliance on renewable energy, and reduce fossil fuel usage.
During their visit, the ministers evaluated several sites at different altitudes, including high-altitude areas reaching 640 meters in Jabal Sahaba and 870 meters in Jabal Ataqa. They reviewed instantaneous wind speeds in the field and assessed the geographical suitability of each site for potential energy projects.
The inspection also covered various areas where the routes of the electricity transmission network were examined. Specific locations were selected for expanding renewable energy projects. The initiative is part of a broader plan to accelerate the implementation timelines of current projects, aiming to achieve a 45% share of renewable energy in the national energy mix by 2028.
