Cairo: Minister of Justice Mahmoud El Sherif said that Egypt is intensifying efforts to build a secure digital environment and combat cybercrime through continued investment in digital transformation and institutional development.
According to State Information Service Egypt, El Sherif, speaking at an international conference on cybercrime and emerging digital threats, stated that the ministry has taken steps to modernize its systems and enhance capacity-building efforts. This includes the establishment of the Egyptian-African Center for the Prevention and Combating of Cybercrime, in cooperation with the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC).
El Sherif emphasized that cybercrime has become a growing global challenge that necessitates stronger international cooperation, especially with the rapid expansion of digital technologies and artificial intelligence.
During the conference discussions, participants explored emerging cyber threats, electronic evidence, online crimes, and ways to improve coordination among countries to strengthen cybersecurity and support criminal justice systems.
The conference was organized by the Ministry of Justice in partnership with UNODC, the Council of Europe, and the British University in Egypt.
