FRA Increases Insurance Coverage for Egyptian Expats to EGP250k

Cairo: Egypt's Financial Regulatory Authority (FRA) has raised the value of the personal accident insurance policy for Egyptians abroad and their families to 250,000 Egyptian pounds, marking a 150 percent increase from the previous limit. The policy now includes all expatriate workers, even those without official work permits, and took effect in July 2025.

According to State Information Service Egypt, the policy was developed in partnership with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to better integrate expatriates into Egypt's social protection system. It provides coverage for natural and accidental death, as well as total permanent disability, and includes repatriation costs.

The FRA statement notes that the policy will be managed by the Egyptian Travel Insurance Pool and now extends to all Egyptians working abroad and their families, rather than only those registered under Law No. 173 of 1958. Expatriates can subscribe to the policy through the Pool's website, mobile app, or WhatsApp. In cases of natural death, the Pool covers repatriation costs up to the policy limit, and if burial occurs abroad, it pays the equivalent repatriation cost.

For accidental death, the policy ensures that the full amount is distributed to heirs after repatriation costs are covered. The coverage is available to individuals aged 18 to 70. Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty described the policy as part of a broader state strategy to support Egyptians overseas and strengthen ties with national institutions.

Deputy Foreign Minister Nabil Habashi stated that the expansion of the policy is a direct response to feedback from the Fifth Conference of Egyptians Abroad.
