Foreign, Labor Ministers Discuss Cooperation on Egyptian Workers Abroad

Cairo: Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty received Minister of Labor Hassan Raddad to discuss strengthening joint coordination on the file of Egyptian workers abroad and mechanisms to enhance the efficiency of Egyptian labor overseas, ensuring their interests and rights are protected.

According to State Information Service Egypt, the meeting reviewed the latest developments in implementing memorandums of understanding between Egypt and several European countries, including Cyprus and Spain. These agreements focus on the employment of skilled Egyptian workers, supporting the circular migration model, and achieving mutual benefits between Egypt and its partners.

Both ministers agreed to intensify coordination and hold regular meetings between the foreign and labor ministries and their European counterparts to follow up on the implementation of these agreements and maximize their benefits. Abdelatty emphasized improving the efficiency of Egyptian workers abroad by expanding technical education and vocational training programs. These efforts aim to prepare qualified workers to meet the demands of regional and international labor markets, especially in sectors like agriculture and construction.

The ministers also reviewed ongoing national initiatives and programs aimed at qualifying and training skilled Egyptian workers. The development of the technical and vocational training system is intended to prepare young people in line with labor market needs, enhancing their competitiveness and readiness to join foreign labor markets.

Abdelatty highlighted the importance of continuous coordination between Egyptian embassies, diplomatic missions abroad, and technical offices. This coordination aims to respond quickly to the needs of Egyptian citizens abroad, address any problems they may encounter, and create more job opportunities in support of the state's employment objectives.

The discussion also covered establishing a unified and comprehensive national database for Egyptian workers abroad. This database would enable regular monitoring of their conditions, provide accurate data for decision-making and future planning, and develop communication mechanisms with Egyptians abroad to facilitate consular and labor services.
