FM Takes Part in Islamabad Quartet Meeting on De-escalation Efforts, Regional Coordination

Islamabad: Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation, and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty took part on Sunday in a quadrilateral ministerial meeting in Pakistan's capital Islamabad, alongside Pakistan's Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, and Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud. The meeting tackled the serious military escalation in the region and ongoing efforts to de-escalate tensions and achieve calm.

According to State Information Service Egypt, Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ambassador Tamim Khallaf stated that the talks addressed ways to enhance joint coordination in light of the fast-paced developments and the grave military escalation in the region, stressing the importance of prioritizing diplomacy and dialogue as the main path to contain the crisis and its serious repercussions on regional security and stability.

The discussions also covered efforts undertaken within the quartet framework to reduce tensions and contain escalation, as well as encouraging the launch of a negotiation track between the United States and Iran to achieve calm and prevent the region from sliding into comprehensive chaos.

The ministers exchanged assessments on the severe economic repercussions of the military escalation, including its impact on international navigation, supply chains, food security, and energy security amid rising oil prices.

Khallaf added that Abdelatty stressed during the meeting the importance of concerted regional and international efforts to contain the situation, underlining that de-escalation through diplomatic solutions remains the only viable path to address the current crisis. He also expressed hope that the quartet's joint efforts would help reduce tensions and launch a gradual de-escalation track leading to an end to the war.

Abdelatty further underscored the importance of working in the future on developing comprehensive regional arrangements that promote collective security and establishing effective implementation mechanisms, describing this as a pressing strategic necessity to confront unprecedented challenges targeting the sovereignty and territorial integrity of states in the region.

The four sides agreed to continue close coordination and consultations to support de-escalation efforts, enhance security and stability in the region, and prevent further expansion of the conflict.
