Cairo: Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty has reaffirmed Cairo's support for the Palestinian Authority during a phone call with Palestinian Prime Minister Mohammad Mustafa. Both sides discussed developments in the Gaza Strip and efforts to advance humanitarian and reconstruction initiatives.
According to State Information Service Egypt, Abdelatty stressed the need to complete the commitments of the first phase of the US-backed plan for Gaza, saying this would help ensure the full delivery of humanitarian aid and pave the way for subsequent phases, including early recovery and reconstruction. He also underscored the importance of enabling the Palestinian Authority to assume its responsibilities in both Gaza and the occupied West Bank.
The Minister condemned what he described as ongoing Israeli violations in the West Bank, including repeated incursions into Al-Aqsa Mosque. He reiterated Egypt's rejection of annexation and settlement policies, stating they violate international law and undermine prospects for a two-state solution.
The two officials also reviewed preparations for the international donors' conference, scheduled for later this month in Brussels. Abdelatty reaffirmed Egypt's backing for the Palestinian government and called for increased international financial support to strengthen its capacity to deliver essential services and promote stability in the Palestinian territories.
