Cairo: Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation, and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty lauded Cairo University's pivotal role in strengthening Egypt's relations with African countries, particularly through offering scholarships to African students and supporting graduates across various fields.
According to State Information Service Egypt, during a meeting on Tuesday, March 31, 2026, with Cairo University President Mohamed Sami Abdel Sadek, the minister highlighted the university's contribution to building human capacities, fostering cultural and scientific ties, and transferring expertise to support sustainable development and continental integration.
The meeting falls within ongoing coordination with academic and intellectual institutions to support Egypt's foreign policy priorities, and to review preparations for the upcoming Africa Day celebration, set to be hosted by Cairo University for the first time in May under the auspices of the foreign ministry.
Discussions covered logistical and organizational arrangements to ensure the event reflects Egypt's leading role in Africa, with broad participation expected from African ambassadors, students, and representatives of academic and cultural institutions.
Abdelatty stressed the importance of benefitting from the event to enhance people-to-people connectivity and expand cooperation across various sectors, while reaffirming Egypt's commitment to supporting peace, security, and stability across the continent.
For his part, Abdel Sadek underscored the university's commitment to supporting African students, noting that it has hosted around 30,000 international students from 110 countries.
