Nouakchott: Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Expatriates Badr Abdelatty led the Egyptian side participating in the second session of the Egyptian-Mauritanian Joint Committee. The Mauritanian side was headed by Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Mauritanians Abroad Mohamed Salem Ould Merzoug.
According to State Information Service Egypt, the discussions between the two countries emphasized their commitment to maintaining consultation, coordination, and joint cooperation mechanisms. This cooperation aims to strengthen bilateral relations and expand them to broader horizons. During the meeting, 13 agreements and memoranda of understanding were signed in various fields, including bilateral investment relations, labor, higher education, social affairs, marine fisheries, water resources, and more.
The two sides agreed to ensure the regularity of the Egyptian-Mauritanian Joint Committee meetings, building on the momentum generated by this session in Nouakchott. Abdelatty also welcomed the joint economic forum between Egyptian and Mauritanian businessmen, which serves as a crucial platform for enhancing ties between the public and private sectors of both countries and fostering effective investment and trade partnerships.
Opportunities for investment and trade exchange were highlighted, particularly in the sectors of agriculture, fisheries, mining, energy, transportation, and logistics. The committee's work also touched on several regional and international issues of mutual interest, including the Palestinian issue, the situation in the Gaza Strip, and recent developments in Libya and Sudan. Other discussions covered the situation in the Horn of Africa and the Sahel, as well as counterterrorism efforts.
