ERC Sends ‘Zad Al-Ezza 183’ Convoy Carrying 5,770 Tons of Humanitarian Aid to Gaza

Cairo: The Egyptian Red Crescent (ERC) announced on Monday, April 27, 2026, that its convoy 'Zad Al-Ezza. from Egypt to Gaza' on its 183rd day transported several trucks toward the Gaza Strip, carrying approximately 5,770 tons of comprehensive humanitarian aid.

According to State Information Service Egypt, the convoy included food baskets, flour, medical drugs, medical supplies, relief materials, and fuel to operate hospitals and vital facilities in the Gaza Strip. The Egyptian Red Crescent also provided residents with essential items, including clothing, blankets, tarpaulins, and tents for displaced persons, as part of its ongoing efforts to coordinate aid to Gaza.

ERC has been stationed at the border since the start of the crisis, maintaining readiness at all logistical centers and continuing to deliver humanitarian and relief aid exceeding 900,000 tons, with the support of more than 65,000 volunteers. The Israeli occupation forces had closed the crossings linking Gaza since March 2, 2025, after the first phase of the ceasefire agreement ended without a permanent arrangement, later violating the truce with heavy airstrikes on March 18, 2025, and re-entering parts of Gaza from which they had previously withdrawn.

They also prevented humanitarian aid trucks, fuel, and emergency shelter supplies for displaced families from entering Gaza and refused to allow heavy equipment needed for rubble removal and reconstruction. Aid deliveries to Gaza resumed in May 2025 under a mechanism implemented by Israeli authorities and an American security company, despite objections from UNRWA, which cited violations of established international procedures.

The Israeli army declared a temporary 10-hour truce on Sunday, July 27, 2025, suspending military operations in certain areas of Gaza to allow humanitarian aid delivery. Mediators, including Egypt, Qatar, and the United States, continued efforts to reach a comprehensive ceasefire agreement, including the exchange of prisoners.

On October 9, 2025 morning, Hamas and Israel reached an agreement on the first phase of the ceasefire, based on a plan by U.S. President Donald Trump in Sharm El-Sheikh, with Egyptian, American, Qatari, and Turkish mediation. The second phase of the agreement came into effect on Monday, February 2, 2026, following the completion of the prisoner exchange and the return of the last Israeli remains under the first phase. Palestinians were permitted to enter Gaza and the wounded were allowed to exit for treatment in Egyptian hospitals after the Palestinian side of Rafah border crossing was opened.
