Cairo: The National Elections Authority (NEA) is poised to release the final list of candidates for the upcoming Senate elections in Egypt on Friday, alongside their respective electoral symbols. This announcement will initiate the official campaigning period, following the conclusion of the election appeals phase which wrapped up on Wednesday.
According to State Information Service Egypt, the NEA, through Resolution No. 17 of 2025, has established strict regulations governing the campaigning activities for the Senate elections. These rules emphasize the protection of privacy and prohibit actions that could threaten national unity or incite discrimination based on gender, language, or creed. Furthermore, the use of religious slogans or symbols that promote hatred is forbidden.
The NEA's regulations also explicitly ban the use or threat of violence, as well as the exploitation of state-owned resources such as buildings, transportation, and facilities for campaign purposes. Additionally, campaigning in public facilities like places of worship, educational institutions, and government or private buildings is strictly prohibited. The resolution also outlaws the use of public funds or resources from public sector companies and civil society organizations.
Moreover, candidates are prohibited from offering gifts, donations, or any form of assistance in exchange for votes, and the misuse of public office for propaganda purposes is strictly forbidden. Egyptian expatriates are scheduled to participate in the Senate elections on August 1st and 2nd, with polling stations opening first in New Zealand and closing last in California, USA, due to the time zone differences.
