Egyptian and Turkish Foreign Ministers Urge Implementation of US Peace Plan and De-escalation in the Region

Cairo: Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty received a phone call from his Turkish counterpart Hakan Fidan as part of continued communication and coordination between the two countries on regional issues of mutual concern.

According to State Information Service Egypt, the call addressed the latest regional developments and efforts to de-escalate tensions, with the two ministers stressing the importance of intensifying efforts to achieve calm and reach comprehensive and sustainable understandings that enhance regional security and stability.

The discussion also involved developments in the Palestinian issue, emphasizing the importance of continuing efforts to implement US President Donald Trump's peace plan for the Gaza Strip. They urged Israel to fulfill its commitments under the first phase and the roadmap, thereby paving the way for the implementation of the second phase, consolidation of the ceasefire, and completion of the path toward peace and stability.

Furthermore, they underscored the need to return to diplomatic channels and de-escalate the ongoing military tensions in the region. The ministers highlighted the willingness of Palestinian factions to address the issue of weapons control, stressing that the onus is now on Israel to respond positively to efforts to implement the US president's plan.

The call also addressed the dangerous developments in the West Bank. The two ministers warned against Israel's implementation of the E1 settlement project in the occupied West Bank, citing the serious threat it poses to the territorial integrity of the Palestinian territories. They particularly cautioned that the project would separate East Jerusalem from its Palestinian surroundings and undermine geographical contiguity among parts of the West Bank, thereby jeopardizing prospects for establishing an independent and viable Palestinian state.

Additionally, the ministers discussed developments in Syria in light of Israel's recent attacks on Syrian territory.
