Cairo: Egypt's Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Industry and Transport, Kamel El-Wazir, emphasized the government's accelerated efforts in developing industrial zones, new cities, and a modern transport network as a strategy to drive economic growth and job creation across the country. Speaking at the Builders of Egypt forum, El-Wazir highlighted the role of infrastructure projects in unlocking opportunities in sectors such as agriculture, tourism, and manufacturing.
According to State Information Service Egypt, El-Wazir outlined the government's comprehensive national plan to connect Egypt's cities, industrial zones, ports, and farmlands, emphasizing the necessity of these connections for delivering growth where it is needed most. The minister detailed progress on Egypt's national roads program, which includes the construction of 7,000 km of new highways and upgrades to 10,000 km of existing routes. This program aims to improve accessibility to remote regions and stimulate investment, with projects like the expansion of the Western Desert Road serving as key corridors.
El-Wazir noted that new industrial zones, such as those in Borg El Arab and near Alexandria, are beginning to attract factories and businesses due to ready infrastructure. He emphasized the importance of coordination between ministries to ensure swift project progression from planning to execution. The minister also highlighted the westward expansion as a means to create space for new cities and economic activities, predicting operational factories, job creation, and the emergence of new communities by next year.
El-Wazir called for private sector cooperation to support the government's ambitious plans, underscoring the scale and necessity of the work for Egypt's future. "Every day, we're implementing the national vision. The work is massive, but essential for Egypt's future," he concluded.
