New york: Minister of Planning and Economic Development Ahmed Rostom engaged in discussions with Norway's Minister of International Development, smund Aukrust, focusing on bolstering development and investment partnerships between Egypt and Norway.
According to State Information Service Egypt, the meeting was held on the sidelines of the 2026 High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF) at the United Nations headquarters in New York. The discussions underscored the robust bilateral ties between the two nations across economic, development, and humanitarian fields, as well as their ongoing coordination on regional issues to promote peace and stability.
Minister Rostom highlighted the economic challenges faced due to geopolitical tensions in the region and detailed the precautionary steps taken by the Egyptian government to fortify the national economy against external shocks. He noted that despite these challenges, Egypt's economy has shown positive growth, driven by strong performances in sectors like tourism and remittances from Egyptians working abroad, alongside the implementation of structural economic reforms.
The discussions also emphasized the importance of international efforts to manage regional tensions and enhance stability, aiming to mitigate economic and humanitarian impacts of conflicts and support sustainable development. Rostom stressed the significance of expanding renewable energy projects as a crucial element of the green transition and energy security, commending Norwegian investments in Egypt, particularly by Scatec, as a successful example of cooperation in clean energy and green hydrogen.
Concluding the meeting, Rostom reiterated Egypt's dedication to enhancing cooperation with Nordic countries, especially Norway, to support development goals, attract sustainable investments, and expand economic collaboration.
