Algiers: Egyptian Agriculture Minister Alaa Farouk and Algerian Minister of Agriculture, Rural Development and Fisheries Yacine Oualid have agreed to strengthen cooperation in the agricultural sector, aiming to transform their historic ties into economic and investment partnerships.
According to State Information Service Egypt, the discussions took place on the sidelines of the 24th International Exhibition for Agriculture, Livestock and Agri-Food Industries in Algiers. The ministers explored ways to address regional challenges such as climate change, water scarcity, and sustainable food security. Farouk highlighted Egypt's advancements in national projects like the New Delta project and expressed readiness to share expertise in desert land reclamation, agricultural digitalization, and modern irrigation systems with Algeria. Additionally, he offered cooperation in providing high-yield and drought-resistant seeds.
The talks also covered potential cooperation in improving livestock breeds and developing veterinary vaccines. Both ministers emphasized the importance of building partnerships between business communities in Egypt and Algeria, particularly in agricultural manufacturing to establish robust regional supply chains.
Efforts to accelerate bilateral trade in agricultural commodities, simplify quarantine and customs procedures, and facilitate joint agricultural and industrial projects were also discussed. The ministers underscored the need for enhanced cooperation in line with the political leadership's vision in both countries, aiming for swift implementation to support sustainable development and the welfare of their peoples.
