Egypt Advocates for Ethical AI Use in Arts at Global Summit in Mumbai

Mumbai: Egypt's Culture Minister, Ahmed Fouad Hanno, emphasized the country's dedication to safeguarding cultural heritage and promoting cultural justice through modern technology integration at the Global Media Dialogue. The event, part of the 2025 World Audio Visual and Entertainment Summit (WAVES), commenced in Mumbai, India, on May 1.According to State Information Service Egypt, the minister advocated for global cooperation to develop ethical standards for artificial intelligence (AI) usage in the arts and culture sector. He underscored the need for ensuring content authenticity and respecting cultural contexts, highlighting the significance of the summit in fostering creative partnerships amid the fast-paced technological landscape. Hanno noted that India's rich cultural heritage makes it an ideal host for such discussions.The minister also outlined Egypt's cultural policies, which focus on empowering youth, developing infrastructure, and preserving both tangible and intangible heritage. He remarked on digital transformation's role in democratizing content creation, allowing marginalized groups, including women, youth in remote areas, and cultural minorities, to share their stories on a global platform, thereby enriching cultural diversity.Hanno sounded a note of caution regarding AI's potential to distort cultural content and impact collective memory, calling for global vigilance and regulatory measures. He praised India's hospitality and the summit's organization, labeling it a genuine platform for cultural and technological collaboration.WAVES 2025, a four-day event themed "Connecting Creators, Connecting Countries," gathers creators, startups, industry leaders, and policymakers from around the world. India, hosting the Global Media Dialogue for the first time, marks a significant milestone in its engagement with the global media and entertainment sectors.The summit features participation from over 90 countries, with more than 10,000 delegates, 1,000 creators, 300+ companies, and 350+ startups. It includes 42 plenary sessions, 39 breakout sessions, and 32 master classes across various sectors such as broadcasting, infotainment, films, and digital media.
