Cairo, Zhejiang Universities Probe Promoting Academic Cooperation

Cairo: Vice President of Cairo University for Education and Student Affairs Ahmed Ragab on Thursday 17/7/2025 discussed with Zhu Hui, the vice chairperson of Zhejiang University Council, the means of enhancing academic cooperation between the two institutions. This came during a meeting at Cairo University, in the presence of Lu Chunsheng, Minister Counselor of Education of the Chinese Embassy in Egypt, and Rehab Mahmoud, Director of the Confucius Institute and Head of the Chinese Language Department at the Faculty of Arts.

According to State Information Service Egypt, during the meeting, Ragab highlighted the 'historic' relations between Egypt and China, emphasizing the shared commitment to expanding cooperation in fields such as scientific research, technology, agriculture, environment, health, humanities, and archaeology. Ragab noted that Cairo University maintains strong partnerships with several Chinese universities and has made significant progress in international rankings.

Ragab pointed out that Cairo University is now ranked among the top 300 universities worldwide according to the QS World University Rankings 2025, with some disciplines ranked among the top 50 globally. He mentioned that the university hosts the Confucius Institute, which plays a crucial role in teaching the Chinese language and culture, and also has a Chinese Language Department at the Faculty of Arts.

Zhu Hui, the vice chairperson of Zhejiang University Council, expressed her satisfaction with visiting Cairo University, describing it as one of the oldest and most prestigious educational institutions globally. She praised the university's achievements in disciplines such as law, medicine, engineering, and the humanities, and highlighted its position among the top 300 in the QS ranking. Hui affirmed Zhejiang University's commitment to strengthening its collaboration with Cairo University and announced the donation of the "Chinese Paintings of Successive Dynasties" series to the Confucius Institute in recognition of its efforts in Chinese language education.

Meanwhile, Lu Chunsheng, Educational Counselor at the Chinese Embassy in Egypt, described the current period as a "golden age" for Egypt-China cooperation, particularly in politics, education, and technology.
