Abdelatty Emphasizes Peaceful Solutions for African Conflicts to US Advisor

Cairo: Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty on Saturday conveyed to Massad Boulos, Senior Advisor for Africa and to the US President on Arab and Middle Eastern Affairs, that conflicts in Africa must be resolved through peaceful political solutions rather than military means. The discussion, which took place over a phone call, centered around several regional issues, particularly developments in the Horn of Africa, Sudan, Libya, and the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

According to State Information Service Egypt, Abdelatty highlighted President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi's initiatives aimed at achieving security and stability across the African continent. He emphasized the importance of supporting post-conflict reconstruction efforts through the mobilization of international organizations and powers to alleviate humanitarian suffering.

Abdelatty reiterated Egypt's support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Sudan and Somalia, emphasizing the country's commitment to their security and stability. He also expressed Egypt's unwavering support for Lebanon's government and institutions, highlighting the importance of implementing the November ceasefire agreement, ensuring Israel's withdrawal from southern Lebanon, and the thorough application of UN Resolution 1701.

In his discussion, Abdelatty condemned an Israeli airstrike near the presidential palace in Damascus, labeling it a breach of the 1974 Disengagement Agreement and rejecting any Israeli interference in Syrian affairs. He advocated for an inclusive political process in Syria that engages all segments of Syrian society to help the nation navigate through its challenges.

Both parties agreed on the importance of maintaining close coordination to address mutual interests and regional challenges in Africa and the Middle East. The conversation also touched upon the strategic partnership between Egypt and the United States and their cooperation across key areas.
