Venice: Egypt Healthcare Authority (EHA): The Stroke Unit at Tiba Specialized Hospital has been awarded 'Gold Status' under the WSO Angels Awards of the World Stroke Organization (WSO), as announced by the EHA. This achievement highlights the Authority's leadership in neurological care and signifies the success of its healthcare facilities in adhering to international standards for stroke and cerebral hemorrhage treatment.
According to State Information Service Egypt, EHA Chairman Ahmed El-Sobky emphasized that the 'Gold Status' serves as an international endorsement of the stroke care system's efficiency across the Authority's facilities. He highlighted the institution's dedication to rapid diagnosis and precise medical intervention, following the latest international protocols, which contributes to reducing disability and mortality rates from strokes while improving recovery opportunities and patient quality of life.
El-Sobky elaborated that the Stroke Unit at Tiba Specialized Hospital is a fully integrated model for specialized care. It offers comprehensive services starting with emergency reception and intervention, progressing through advanced treatment and intensive care, and extending to rehabilitation and continuous post-recovery follow-up for patients.
The unit, established in February 2025, includes eight fully equipped beds and is staffed by a medical team of 15 neurology and stroke specialists, along with trained nursing staff, speech therapy and physiotherapy experts, neurosurgery teams, and interventional neuroradiology consultants.
Performance indicators within the unit demonstrate operational efficiency and rapid medical response. The medical team has treated 450 stroke and cerebral hemorrhage cases, with approximately 150 patients receiving clot-dissolving therapy (tPA) within the golden time window. Additionally, the unit has performed several specialized interventional neuroradiology procedures for critical cases, proving its capability to manage severe neurological emergencies in line with international medical practices.
El-Sobky noted that Tiba Specialized Hospital in Luxor continues to establish itself as a major medical institution under the EHA in Upper Egypt. Since its inception, the hospital has delivered more than 3.5 million healthcare services and conducted over 100,000 surgical procedures and medical interventions, showcasing its operational scale and service efficiency for beneficiaries in Luxor Governorate and southern Upper Egypt.
El-Sobky reaffirmed the EHA's commitment to advancing specialized medical disciplines, expanding international standards implementation, and pursuing medical accreditation programs. These efforts aim to enhance healthcare service quality, improve citizens' quality of life, and strengthen Egypt's position as a regional hub for advanced healthcare services.
