State-Owned Press Institutions Key to Egypt’s National Memory, Says Deputy PM

Cairo:Dr. Hussein Issa, Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs, continued his meetings at the National Press Authority (NPA) to review the status of Egypt's state-owned press institutions. These discussions are part of a comprehensive effort to restructure these entities, enhance their performance, and ensure financial sustainability. A recent meeting focused on the Al-Ahram Foundation, with Eng. Abdel-Sadek El-Shorbagy, Chairman of the NPA, and other officials in attendance.

According to State Information Service Egypt, Eissa's meetings aim to assess the position and capabilities of each state-owned press institution individually. The discussions focus on addressing challenges and formulating plans to improve performance, maintain financial balance, and tailor strategies to the unique circumstances of each institution.

During the meeting about Al-Ahram, officials examined strategies to develop resources and increase revenue by leveraging assets and diverse publications. They also discussed the foundation's investment activities, events, and conferences. Digital transformation initiatives, such as the development of digital services and platforms like the Al-Ahram Store, were also a key topic, alongside enhancing media tools and products to keep pace with industry changes.

Eissa emphasized the historical significance of state-owned press institutions, describing them as pillars of Egypt's history and national memory. He highlighted their role in shaping public awareness and contributing to the country's cultural and social life. Emphasizing the importance of preserving this legacy, he advocated for leveraging these institutions' capabilities to improve performance and continue their role in promoting knowledge.

Shorbagy expressed appreciation for Eissa's commitment to the development of the press institutions, emphasizing the need for continued collaboration to implement effective development plans. These efforts aim to maximize the use of institutional capabilities and support financial sustainability while maintaining their journalistic and cultural roles.

Eissa's recent meetings included other major institutions like Akhbar Al-Youm, Dar Al-Tahrir, and the Middle East News Agency, aligning with Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly's directives to improve their performance and financial viability.
