Sisi Urges Introduction of Law to Restrict Mobile Phone Use by Children

Cairo: President Abdel Fattah El Sisi on Saturday 24/1/2026 called on the government and the House of Representatives to introduce a legislation restricting the use of mobile phones by children.

According to State Information Service Egypt, Sisi made these remarks during a celebration marking the 74th anniversary of Police Day. He urged the government and parliament in Egypt to consider the examples set by Australia and Britain, where laws have been enacted to limit mobile phone use among younger populations.

Sisi mentioned that he had previously discussed this issue with colleagues, highlighting that action in Egypt often follows similar measures adopted by other countries. He emphasized the necessity of implementing laws and regulations to govern mobile phone use among children.

The president referenced a recent statement by the Australian prime minister regarding the outcomes of their legislation on mobile phone use, suggesting that the issue deserves thorough examination. He stressed the importance of reviewing international experiences to safeguard children until they are mature enough to handle mobile phones and modern technology responsibly.
