Cairo: President Abdel Fattah El Sisi engaged in a phone conversation with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to discuss enhancing bilateral relations, particularly focusing on commercial and economic aspects.

According to State Information Service Egypt, the dialogue initiated by President Zelenskyy on August 14, 2026, led to an agreement between the two leaders on maintaining joint cooperation for increasing bilateral trade. They also explored potential cooperation opportunities in promising sectors beneficial to both nations.

The conversation extended to the Middle East's current developments, with President Sisi outlining Cairo's efforts in de-escalating regional tensions. He stressed the necessity of resolving these tensions through peaceful means to ensure regional peace and stability.

Additionally, President Sisi called for unified regional and international efforts to cease the ongoing escalation, considering its adverse effects on security, stability, and international trade. President Zelenskyy praised Egypt's actions in this regard and concurred with Sisi on the importance of reducing tensions.

The Ukrainian leader also updated President Sisi on the Russian-Ukrainian war's latest developments, appreciating Egypt's commitment to resolving the conflict. President Sisi reaffirmed Egypt's support for a political settlement and expressed readiness to back efforts aimed at achieving a resolution promptly.
