PM Moustafa Madbouly Aims to Strengthen Egypt-World Bank Partnership for Sustainable Growth

Cairo: Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly has reiterated Egypt's commitment to deepening its partnership with the World Bank to bolster sustainable growth, economic resilience, and inclusive development. In a meeting with World Bank Managing Director and Chief Knowledge Officer Paschal Donohoe, Madbouly emphasized the importance of expanding cooperation in key sectors to enhance the country's economic development and structural reforms.

According to State Information Service Egypt, the discussions aimed at building on the outcomes of World Bank President Ajay Banga's March 2026 visit to Cairo, during which he engaged with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El Sisi. The focus of the talks was on expanding collaboration in vital areas such as health, energy, tourism, food security, and digital transformation, among others.

Prime Minister Madbouly highlighted the progress made in Egypt's economic reforms, which have bolstered the country's competitiveness and empowered the private sector. He acknowledged ongoing efforts with the World Bank in preparing Egypt's National Foreign Direct Investment Strategy to attract more foreign investments and improve the business climate through the Business Ready (B-READY) report.

The meeting also covered the restructuring of the Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprise Development Agency (MSMEDA) to enhance support for productive activities. Madbouly emphasized the sector's role in driving economic growth and job creation, seeking the World Bank's expertise in this domain.

Madbouly further outlined advancements in Egypt's digital transformation, noting the increasing contribution of the digital economy to the GDP. He expressed the government's commitment to strengthening digital infrastructure with the World Bank's support to enhance economic competitiveness.

Deputy Minister Samar El-Ahdal underscored the Foreign Ministry's coordination efforts with national authorities and the World Bank to maximize the benefits of existing cooperation and explore new opportunities aligned with Egypt's economic reform agenda. She highlighted the ongoing visit of World Bank officials as a pivotal moment to advance bilateral cooperation and expand into new areas, including digital transformation and healthcare.

Donohoe expressed his appreciation for the Egyptian government's efforts in implementing economic reforms, contributing to macroeconomic stability and an improved investment climate. He reaffirmed the World Bank's dedication to supporting Egypt's development priorities through expanded cooperation in healthcare, infrastructure, and private sector development.

In conclusion, Donohoe emphasized the longstanding partnership between Egypt and the World Bank, highlighting the group's ongoing commitment to providing technical and financial support to advance Egypt's development objectives and encourage private sector participation in driving economic growth.
