Cairo: Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly announced that Egypt is implementing an integrated system of green and sustainable public transport. This initiative is seen as a crucial element for urban and economic development, as well as enhancing the quality of life for citizens.
According to State Information Service Egypt, the Prime Minister highlighted that the projects, such as monorails, high-speed electric trains, and metro lines, are designed not only to provide fast and safe transport but also to influence traffic and development patterns. These projects aim to connect new cities and residential and industrial zones through an advanced and integrated public transport network.
During an extensive inspection tour accompanied by Transport Minister Kamel El-Wazir, Madbouly visited several eco-friendly green public transport projects in Giza and Cairo. Giza Governor Ahmed El-Ansary, Cairo Governor Ibrahim Saber, and other officials joined the tour, which aligns with President Abdel Fattah El Sisi's directives to complete public transport projects on schedule.
The Prime Minister emphasized that these projects reflect the State's commitment to building a transport system tailored to the "New Republic." This system provides modern alternatives to private cars, reduces fuel consumption and emissions, alleviates traffic congestion, supports sustainable development, and maximizes investments in the transport sector.
The tour commenced with an inspection of the West Nile Monorail project, which spans 43.8 km and includes 13 stations. It is being constructed by an Alstom-Arab Contractors consortium. The Prime Minister and Transport Minister also reviewed the monorail's workshop and control center, which features numerous facilities essential for its operations.
Madbouly and El-Wazir traveled on a monorail train from Canadian Ahram University station to Engineers Syndicate station, assessing the progress of final finishing works and station preparations. Plans for trial operations without passengers were also discussed.
Transport Minister El-Wazir assured that work on the West Nile Monorail is ongoing around the clock, adhering to the highest standards of quality and safety. The project is crucial for serving the expanding urban areas in Sixth of October City, including social housing and industrial zones.
The West Nile Monorail will integrate with various public transport systems, enhancing connectivity across the region. It will link with the third metro line at Wadi El-Nile station and connect with the high-speed electric railway at various points, facilitating access to the New Capital and other major destinations.
The combined length of the East and West Nile monorail projects is approximately 100 km, with a total of 35 stations. Each line can accommodate about 500,000 passengers daily. Future plans include increasing the number of carriages per train from four to eight to meet rising population demands.
The monorail will serve numerous vital areas, including educational institutions, hospitals, shopping centers, and new urban communities. It will also connect with major roads and sports facilities, promoting the use of public transport over private vehicles and contributing to reduced fuel consumption and pollution.
