Cairo: The Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources has revealed a significant new gas discovery in the Western Desert, as announced on Monday, November 17, 2025. Khalda Petroleum Company successfully drilled the exploratory well 'Gomana-1,' which has shown promising results.
According to State Information Service Egypt, the ministry's statement highlighted that electric logs identified gas-bearing zones within the well. Initial tests have demonstrated a production capacity of approximately 36 million cubic feet of gas per day. The ongoing testing and reserve evaluation are expected to conclude shortly, with plans to integrate the well into the production network by Thursday.
This discovery marks a notable expansion of Apache's operations in the Western Desert, where they are actively engaged in the exploration and development of gas in collaboration with Khalda. The Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources has introduced new incentives to foster investment in gas exploration, complementing the ongoing crude oil projects in the region.
