Cairo: Egyptian weightlifter Nour El-Din Zaki clinched two medals, a gold and a silver, in the weightlifting events at the 2026 Mediterranean Games, which are currently taking place in Taranto, Italy. Zaki's triumph in the men's 65kg category saw him secure gold in the snatch and silver in the clean and jerk.According to State Information Service Egypt, Egypt has accumulated a total of 38 medals at the Mediterranean Games so far. This includes 12 gold, 13 silver, and 13 bronze medals, which has enabled Egypt to maintain its leading position among Arab countries and rank prominently among the top medal-winning nations.The 20th edition of the Mediterranean Games in Taranto features participation from 3,803 athletes representing 26 countries and will continue until September 3. The Egyptian delegation is competing in 23 sports, including archery, athletics, badminton, 3x3 basketball, boxing, canoeing and kayaking, equestrian, fencing, aquatic sports and short-course swimming, gymnastics, handball, judo, kara te, padel, rowing, sailing, shooting, table tennis, volleyball, weightlifting, wrestling, fin swimming, and amateur roller skating.
