Cairo: The Ministry of Communications and Information Technology and the Ministry of Higher Education have successfully concluded the fourth edition of the Universities Capacity Building in Artificial Intelligence Initiative. This initiative, which ended on Tuesday, August 4, 2026, is a testament to the government's commitment to equipping students with AI skills that meet the demands of the labor market.

According to State Information Service Egypt, during the closing ceremony held in Giza, Raafat Hendi, the Minister of Communication and Information Technology, emphasized the importance of the increasing participation from universities. He noted that this growth signifies a successful collaboration among the government, academia, and the private sector, aimed at bridging the gap between academic knowledge and practical applications. The initiative is also a crucial element of Egypt's National AI Strategy, promoting the development of AI solutions in the Arabic language and the conversion of research into tangible applications.

Abdel Aziz Konsowa, the Minister of Higher Education, reiterated the ministry's dedication to expanding digital transformation across universities. He highlighted the focus on promoting AI-driven education, applied research, and fostering innovation within the academic sector.

This year's initiative, conducted in partnership with Dell Technologies, involved the training of 1,090 students from 10 universities. These students developed a total of 445 AI projects. A highlight of the program was an AI hackathon centered on renewable energy, where 21 teams competed. The team Hacktastic from Ain Shams University emerged victorious. Since its inception in 2022, the initiative has trained over 2,700 students and supported the development of 763 AI projects.
