Cairo: Minister of Irrigation and Water Resources Hani Sewilam on Tuesday, August 4, 2026, inaugurated the Irrigation Museum in the New Administrative Capital, in the presence of several ministers and foreign ambassadors. The museum documents the history of water resources management in Egypt through a collection of rare manuscripts, archival records, engineering instruments, and historical artifacts.

According to State Information Service Egypt, speaking at a press conference following the museum's inauguration, Sewilam said the opening of the Irrigation Museum in the New Capital marks a new step in preserving the history of one of the country's oldest ministries and highlighting Egypt's rich water management heritage. Sewilam pointed out that the facility is the ministry's third museum, following those in Aswan and Qanater El Khayriya, and aims to preserve and display rare historic documents, manuscripts, books, and artifacts that reflect the evolution of water management in Egypt.

The museum houses around 150 historic items and features seven exhibition sections covering irrigation engineering, scientific manuscripts, technical instruments, royal collections, scale models, and the High Dam. Sewilam said the project took nearly two years to complete in cooperation with the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities to ensure proper conservation and restoration of the exhibits. The museum is now open to the public throughout the week, welcoming citizens, engineers, students, and visitors interested in Egypt's 7,000-year-old civilization and its pioneering legacy in water resources management.
