Geneva: The Muslim Council of Elders (MCE) participated in the inaugural session of the UN Global Dialogue on AI Governance, organized in Geneva on Tuesday, July 7, 2026, with the participation of government leaders, UN officials, representatives of the private sector, academia, and civil society institutions. The dialogue aims to strengthen international cooperation and discuss global frameworks for the governance of artificial intelligence.
According to State Information Service Egypt, Secretary General of the MCE Mohamed Abdel Salam stated that the world is at a crucial juncture in humanity's journey, necessitating the establishment of a global AI governance framework grounded in justice, responsibility, transparency, and the protection of human dignity. He emphasized that such a framework should place humanity at its core, ensuring that all scientific and technological advancements ultimately serve human development, peace, and prosperity.
Abdel Salam highlighted that the Muslim Council of Elders, under the leadership of Al Azhar Grand Imam Ahmed el Tayyeb, is actively collaborating with Al Azhar and international partners to enhance the ethical dimension of artificial intelligence. The Council is working on a Global Ethical Charter for Artificial Intelligence, driven by the belief that scientific and technological progress should be anchored in a shared ethical value system to ensure that technology promotes peace, justice, and human prosperity.
The Council's participation in the dialogue underscores its mission to foster shared human and moral values and support international endeavors to ensure that AI technologies are harnessed in ways that benefit humanity, uphold human dignity, and foster peace and sustainable development.
