New Alamein City:President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi hosted a consultative quadrilateral summit with leaders from Eritrea, Somalia, and Sudan in New Alamein City. The summit saw the participation of Eritrean President Isaias Afwerki, Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, and General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, Chairman of Sudan's Transitional Sovereignty Council.
According to State Information Service Egypt, the summit aimed to enhance coordination and cooperation among the four nations, focusing on developments in the Horn of Africa and the Red Sea region. The leaders discussed regional and African issues of mutual interest and emphasized their commitment to ongoing coordination and consultation on shared challenges.
The leaders reaffirmed their respect for state sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity while supporting national institutions and rejecting interference in internal affairs. They highlighted the importance of peaceful dispute resolutions and Egypt's role in achieving ceasefires and political settlements to crises.
President El-Sisi warned against external interventions that prolong conflicts and exacerbate human suffering. He emphasized the importance of respecting international law and the UN Charter, particularly regarding the unity of states.
The summit also addressed the threats of terrorism and extremism, with Egypt affirming its support for strengthening the capabilities of national institutions. The leaders discussed regional security, stability, and economic integration, stressing the importance of respecting international law governing transboundary rivers, including the Nile.
They expressed their rejection of any unilateral measures that could harm the water uses of downstream Nile countries and commended Egypt's initiative in hosting the summit. The leaders appreciated Egypt's efforts in supporting African stability and development.
The summit concluded with the issuance of the "Joint Al-Alamein Declaration," emphasizing the importance of securing the Red Sea and ensuring the safety of navigation in the Gulf of Aden and the Bab al-Mandab Strait. They also discussed projects to enhance regional connectivity and integration in infrastructure, energy, and trade, aiming for sustainable development and regional prosperity.
