Irrigation Minister Emphasizes Strict Compliance with Coastal Permits to Safeguard Environment

Cairo: Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation Hani Sewilam emphasized the critical need for investors to submit project proposals to the Higher Committee for Coastal Licenses before initiating any work, aiming to prevent negative impacts on coastal regions.

According to State Information Service Egypt, the meeting, led by Sewilam, included Minister of Local Development and Environment Manal Awad, along with representatives from water research, coastal protection, and tourism development sectors. Sewilam highlighted that specialized technical committees are responsible for reviewing applications to ensure compliance, which are then forwarded to a multi-ministerial secretariat for final approval.

Sewilam pointed out that the committee holds regular meetings to streamline the licensing process, facilitating investment and national development while balancing economic growth with the conservation of the environment.

During the session, the committee approved 22 out of the 23 topics discussed, deferring one topic for additional data. The Higher Committee is in charge of licensing activities within restricted coastal zones, ensuring that all projects adhere to safety standards and contribute to the stability of Egypt's coastlines.
