International Conference on Jerusalem Highlights Ongoing Challenges and Calls for Action on Palestinian Rights

Cairo: The International Conference on Jerusalem was held in Cairo under the auspices of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation and the United Nations, focusing on the current challenges facing the Holy City and the broader Palestinian territories. Ambassador Dr. Dawas Dawas, Assistant Secretary-General for Palestine and Jerusalem Affairs, delivered a keynote speech emphasizing Jerusalem's significance as the capital of the State of Palestine and its occupation since 1967.According to Union of OIC News Agencies, Ambassador Dawas highlighted Israel's ongoing efforts to alter the historical, legal, and demographic character of Jerusalem through settlement expansion, land confiscation, and other measures. He condemned these actions as violations of international law and called for immediate international intervention to halt these policies.Dawas also addressed the escalating attacks on Islamic and Christian holy sites, particularly the Al-Aqsa Mosque, and denounced the restrictions imposed on worshipers. He reiterated that all actions by Israel to alter the Palestinian identity of Jerusalem or its holy sites are null and void under international law.The ambassador urged the international community to support the two-state solution, recognize the State of Palestine, and grant it full United Nations membership. He called for adherence to international law and United Nations resolutions to end the occupation and cease unilateral measures that threaten peace.The conference saw participation from high-level officials, including Mr. Ashraf Al-Awar, Minister of Jerusalem Affairs in the State of Palestine, and Ambassador Riyad Mansour, Permanent Representative of the State of Palestine to the United Nations. They joined representatives from various countries, religious leaders, and experts in discussing the political, legal, and cultural dimensions of Jerusalem, seeking ways to protect its identity and support the Palestinian people's resilience.This annual conference, organized by the Organization of Islamic Coop eration in collaboration with international organizations like the United Nations, aims to keep Jerusalem at the forefront of international concerns and highlight its central role in the Palestinian cause.
