Cairo: Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly directed that Egypt's national economic program for the post-International Monetary Fund (IMF) reform period be drafted in a clear and accessible manner that addresses the public while also meeting the needs of experts, specialists, and economic institutions.
According to State Information Service Egypt, during a meeting held on Monday, July 20, 2026, Madbouly emphasized the importance of defining parameters, setting measurable objectives, and establishing objective performance evaluation mechanisms to ensure transparency and facilitate monitoring of the program's implementation. This meeting was convened to outline the implementation plan for presidential directives on preparing the national economic program.
The meeting reviewed steps to implement directives issued by President Abdel Fattah El Sisi regarding the framework of a national economic program for the period following the completion of Egypt's economic reform program with the IMF. Attendees included Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs Hussein Eissa, Central Bank of Egypt Governor Hassan Abdalla, Finance Minister Ahmed Kouchouk, and several other senior officials.
Madbouly stated that this meeting was part of a series of follow-up meetings aimed at translating the president's directives, announced during the inauguration of the Strategic Command Headquarters, into specific action plans. He highlighted the government's collaborative efforts with the Central Bank of Egypt to prepare a national economic program guiding the next phase of economic development post-IMF reform.
A working group has been formed, consisting of representatives from relevant authorities, tasked with finalizing the program. This group is working towards an integrated vision that reflects the state's economic priorities for the future.
The Prime Minister mentioned that the completed program would be submitted to President Sisi before its official launch. Cabinet Spokesman Mohamed El-Homosany elaborated that the meeting reviewed the main features, priorities, and objectives of the program. The government and the central bank are working closely to ensure fiscal and monetary policy alignment.
El-Homosany also noted that lessons learned from other countries' experiences with IMF-supported reform programs were reviewed. The goal is to draw on international best practices while considering Egypt's unique economic needs and development priorities.
Participants emphasized the importance of building on achievements from the National Structural Reform Program, the National Narrative for Sustainable Development, and Egypt Vision 2030. Concluding the meeting, Madbouly expressed gratitude to all involved in preparing the national economic program and stressed the necessity of ongoing coordination to meet the established timetable before presenting it to the president.
He also mentioned that the program would undergo public dialogue with experts and specialists to gather input and proposals before its final announcement.
